Dear Ann and Robin,
I thought you might like to know that Tucker is the most "beautiful"
golden on Martha's Vineyard. In fact, his new name on the Vineyard
is "Beautiful." Wednesday I took him to the vet for his physical
before flying back to California. Her jaw dropped when she saw him
and her comment was, "I would like to parade him around the Vineyard
to show them what a golden retriever should really look like."
Obviously, I have paraded him around the Island and he has his new
name. He weighs 65 pounds, has a lovely wavy, slightly curly coat,
is lovely gold color, and is in superb physical condition. His vet
calls him "Mr. Muskles."
In June I went to the Pasadena Kennel Club show where 146 goldens
were showing. What a disappointment. None of them looked as if they
could tolerate a day in the field. Many were over weight and all
were a light cream color. What has happened to the breed? I feel as
if I should run back quickly and get another puppy by Double Trouble
and Jenny Lind. I will take a fit golden (that is truly gold), with
a good nose and a drive to retrieve anytime. You told me when I
picked him up three years ago that he had a beautiful head and that
certainly is his feature on which most people comment.
Tucker is, indeed, Beautiful.
